The Dotted Lime on Shady Brook Street in Columbia has a wide variety of menu items with many vegan options. The chef is very knowledgeable about dietary needs, and if you have any special requests, just let the staff know ahead of time.

When you walk into The Dotted Lime, the menu sits right above the counter, and the staff is there to answer any questions. It’s a fun place to experience and even has chalkboard floors with chalk available for the kids to use while you wait for your food.

Make sure to order the vegan cinnamon rolls. These are so delicious, you’ll probably want to get more than just one. The menu usually changes with the seasons, but you can always find vegan options. There is often a vegan beet taco, which is delicious, and a small vegan pizza with seasonal toppings. The panzino is also a good choice; this comes with a tempeh instead of eggs, along with tomato, avocado, kale, and carrot hummus. The Chrissy is a delicious breakfast item that has quinoa, black beans, kale, sweet potatoes, and pickled red onion. It comes with a choice of sauce along with microgreens and chimichurri.

B’s Salty & Sweet

B’s Salty & Sweet is a local baking company with a vegan owner. The daily lunch menu starts with vegan items, and non-vegans can add to it. The owners specialize in small-batch artisan baked goods made with high-quality ingredients. Most of the breads and the homemade baked goods are vegan, with daily items that include sourdough bread, a variety of vegan cookies, muffins, and granola.

The menu changes every day with a rotating selection of items. You can find out what they are serving each day by checking their social media or the website, but be on the lookout for dishes such as tomato basil soup, a fresh veggie wrap with hummus, lots of fresh veggies such as cucumber, mushrooms, carrots, baby spinach, tomato, avocado, pickled onion, and their honey mustard dressing on a whole wheat tortilla. You will also see chickpea salad, a roasted veggie bowl with Middle East-inspired spices over basmati rice, and avocado toast.

Columbia Health Foods

Columbia Health Foods is a large health food store near the downtown Columbia area. It offers a large selection of frozen vegan meals that you can take home, but there is also a juice bar. Stop by for fresh juice drinks, smoothies, soups, and salads. There is always a daily vegan chili along with the fresh organic mixed green salad and a rotating soup of the day.

Make sure to check the Facebook page to find out what the daily soup is. Some of the options you might find include the roasted vegetable, which is vegan and gluten-free. It’s made with a blend of green beans, squash, and carrots, along with onions, red bell peppers, and corn. It’s also blended with roasted red peppers and diced tomatoes. The lentil soup is another vegan option you might see. It has lentils, carrots, and caramelized onions with sauteed garlic, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil with Moroccan spices.

The juice bar features organic raw juices with options such as the lemon ginger zinger with apple, carrot, lemon, and ginger. The Mean Green is another delicious option that has spinach, kale, apple, cucumber, and pear. You can also get organic fruit smoothies such as the P.B. & J. with strawberry, banana, peanut powder, and oat milk, or the strawberry sunrise with strawberry, mango, banana, and coconut milk.

The Little Juice Company

Stop by the Little Juice Company for natural juices and delicious smoothies along with flatbread pizza and soup. The menu also has some delicious toasts with toppings such as the Traveler toast with seeded sourdough bread, hummus, cucumber, and everything but the bagel seasoning. The garden pizza is a delicious vegan option. It comes with Naan flatbread topped with marinara, mushrooms, green peppers, spinach, tomato, and Italian herbs.

If you want juice or a smoothie, there are many to choose from. The Clarity juice has beet, carrot, cucumber, kale, pineapple, lime, and ginger. There’s also the Energize with carrots, orange, apples, lemon, and ginger, or the Uplift with grapefruit, apple, lime, and ginger.

For smoothies, you can try the Adventurous with frozen pineapple, frozen mango, juiced ginger, juiced carrot, and juiced apple, or the Back-Up with coconut milk, frozen banana, frozen blueberries, Himalayan salt, spinach, almond butter, and cacao.

Square Market & Cafe

Square Market & Cafe offers a variety of soups, sandwiches, salads, and pasta dishes. The varied menu has several vegan dishes, with something for everyone. There’s beautiful outdoor seating on the patio located right on the square, and you can even bring your four-legged family member with you.

Enjoy dishes such as the roasted pear salad. This signature salad has mixed greens, spiced walnuts, freshly sliced pear, and roasted pear vinegarette dressing. The Square Market veggie wrap has avocado, roasted corn salsa with onions, black beans, and romaine lettuce. It is all finished with cilantro lime vinaigrette and wrapped in a spinach tortilla. The tomato Florentine pasta is also vegan-friendly. This dish comes with tomatoes, artichokes, portobello mushrooms, spinach, and onions. It’s all tossed in tomato sauce and served over fettuccine.
