With so much happening throughout the year in Columbia, Tennessee, you’ll never run out of activities to enjoy. If you’re looking for something to do in the coming months, check out a few of these upcoming events in Columbia and experience all the great things the area has to offer.
City Nature Challenge 2021

The City Nature Challenge 2021 is an excellent way to get outside. This free international event runs from April 30 to May 3 and is a way for people to find and record plants and wildlife in cities around the world. This blitz-style competition lets cities compete against each other to see who can get the most engagement, who can find the most species, and who can make the most observations. With more than 350 cities in over 40 countries signed up to participate in the challenge, this will be one of the biggest competitions yet.
If you want to participate in Columbia, you need to start by downloading the iNaturalist app from the AppStore or Google Play and creating an account. Then you simply use the app to make observations of wild plants and animals in Maury County. The event will also include a family-friendly Wilderness Detectives Scavenger Hunt with clues in Maury County Park and Yanahli Park. Once you complete the scavenger hunt, you can submit your information to claim your prize.
Fair Havens Hustle 5K Fundraiser
Whether you like to run, jog, or walk, the Fair Havens Hustle 5K Fundraiser is your opportunity to get up and move. This 5K race is open to competitive runners, families with kids and strollers, running enthusiasts, and anyone else who simply wants to get outside and enjoy some exercise. Registration for the race is $25, and all proceeds from the event help support Fair Havens retreat ministry and the women who seek out support from the organization.
The race will take place at the 242-acre Maury County Park on Saturday, May 1. Check-in begins at 8 a.m., and the race starts at 9 a.m.
All race participants will receive a free Fair Havens Hustle T-shirt and snacks. Additionally, the top three finishers in the women’s and men’s divisions will receive awards and prize packs immediately after the race. Plus, make sure you stick around to see if your name is drawn for the free giveaway. After the race, take some time to explore the rest of the lovely park and then head over to downtown Columbia to check out the unique shops and restaurants.
Cinco de Vino: Celebrating the Flavors of Mexico
If you’re looking for an interesting way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo this year, head to Vintage Winery for Cinco de Vino: Celebrating the Flavors of Mexico. Vintage Winery is a boutique tasting room located in a historic 1930s service center in downtown Columbia. Tickets cost $40, and the event will take place on May 5 at 6 p.m.
During the event, you’ll get to take your senses on an amazing journey as you enjoy the flavors of Mexican cuisine paired perfectly with locally made wines. If you discover a wine you love, be sure to buy a few bottles while you’re at the tasting room so you can enjoy a glass when you’re at home.
aMuse’um Children’s Museum
aMuse’um Children’s Museum has several upcoming events that everyone in the family will love. Not only are these events an outstanding way for the museum to raise funds, but they’re also the perfect way for families to spend more quality time together.
The first event is the popular Daddy Daughter Dance on May 1 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Memorial Building. Fathers and daughters always enjoy this heartwarming way to grow that special bond. The event will include kid-friendly snacks, plenty of dancing, a keepsake photograph, and cherished memories that will last a lifetime. It costs $40 for members and $50 for non-members to attend.
The next exciting event is the Tee Up Fore Kids Charity Golf Tournament. This inaugural event will take place at 8 a.m. on June 5 at the Stoneybrook Golf Course. The entry fee is $300 per team and proceeds will benefit the museum. So, round up the family or your golfing friends and enjoy a fun day on the golf course that benefits a good cause.
Along with these special events, aMuse’um Children’s Museum continues to offer its wide array of rotating programs and activities. Some of the upcoming programs include the Junior Paint Party Camp, Slime Camp, Junior Splash Camp, Wet n’ Wild Camp, Superhero Party, and Princess Party.
The Gardens of Columbia
You can celebrate the arrival of spring and summer with The Gardens of Columbia event on June 4-5. The James K. Polk Memorial Association presents this exceptional event that includes a variety of fascinating activities. In addition to self-guided access to some of the best public and private gardens on Friday and Saturday, the event will also feature a complete schedule of demonstrations and lectures. Tickets range from $20 to $50, and all proceeds benefit the President James K. Polk Home & Museum.
This year, CEO of Belle Meade Winery and culinary instructor Sheree Rose Kelly is the featured guest. During her seminar, she will share highlights from her garden-inspired recipe collections. If you’re a Garden Party Reception ticket holder, you’ll also have an opportunity to meet Kelly and enjoy treats from her recipe books. Other demonstrations during the event include an introduction to beekeeping by local beekeeper Lucia Vining, tips on flower arranging by Bloomstall Flowers owner Michelle Hughes, and a walking tour of the Polk home’s boxwood garden and kitchen garden with museum curator Candice Candeto.
