Meet the Newly Designed 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV

While it may share the same name as the gas-powered Equinox, the recently announced Chevrolet Equinox electric vehicle (EV) won’t just be an electric powertrain on the same package. This two-row crossover is a completely new vehicle with a distinct look that’s scheduled to release in the late fall of 2023. This sporty, beautiful vehicle running on the Ultium Platform is supposed to be the full package — an EV compact SUV that can’t be topped. Here’s what our Chevy specialists at Stan McNabb Chevrolet of Columbia, Tennessee, have learned so far. What’s the Equinox EV?

The Equinox EV is intended to be GM’s most affordable Ultium-battery EV yet, one with no compromises to its powertrain. One of its biggest selling points is a potential range of up to 300 miles on a full charge.

It’s worth noting that Chevy’s recently announced gasoline 2024 Equinox, also totally redesigned in its own way, will come out soon after the EV. The Equinox has long been one of Chevy’s best-selling models, so keeping both versions makes sense.

In short, the Equinox EV will certainly be an even more thrilling version of the reasonably priced SUV you know and love. It’ll be available in five trim levels: 1LT, 2LT, 2RS, 3LT, and 3RS. With an expected MSRP of about $30,000 to start, the Chevrolet Equinox EV should be very accessible for folks interested in an electric SUV.

Equinox EV Exterior

The 2024 Equinox is bound to draw some attention as you drive around town. While the basic design is still recognizable as a Chevrolet Equinox, the electrification process is subtly communicated through sharper lines, an entirely new front fascia, and a new take on two-tone color options. The overall design is sporty, bold, and imposing and is completed by contemporary additions, such as flat door handles. The headlights and taillights display distinctive patterns as the driver approaches the vehicle. You can also program the SUV’s liftgate to open automatically when the key fob is close.

Eight exterior colors will be available, and optional front and rear lighting animations will make you stand out from other drivers. A two-tone white roof is an option for the LT models, while you can opt for a black roof for the RS models. Roof rails are present on all trims except the 1LT.  Chevy sets the Equinox EV on 19-inch, 20-inch, or 21-inch wheels, depending on the trim level.

Equinox EV Powertrain and Charging

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV four-wheel drive will use a front-mounted electric motor that generates 210 horsepower and 242 lb-ft of torque on standard versions, with a driving range of 250 miles. A larger battery option, according to GM, will extend the vehicle’s range to 300 miles. There will also be an optional stronger powertrain — a dual-motor model with electric all-wheel drive (eAWD) generating 290 horsepower and up to 346 lb-ft of torque. These AWD Equinox EV models will have a range of up to 280 miles and a zero-to-60 acceleration time of 6 seconds.

In addition, the Equinox EV features the most recent charging capabilities. Here are the key takeaways:

  • Charging via 11.5 kW level 2 ports can restore around 34 miles of range per hour.
  • The eAWD has access to 19.2 kW level 2 charging, which can provide up to 51 miles of range in an hour.
  • A standard DC fast-charging capacity of up to 150 kW allows you to reclaim about 70 miles of range in 10 minutes.

One of the benefits of switching to an EV is you can save money by scheduling maintenance less often due to the much simpler and cleaner-operating powertrain. It’s nice to know that in terms of charging and range, you’ll also be getting one of the best EVs ever made when you buy an Equinox EV. In addition, GM’s Ultium Charge 360 tells you the location and status of nearby charging stations.

Equinox EV Interior

Like the gasoline Equinox, the EV will have five seats. The Equinox EV’s cabin will benefit from an intelligent entertainment system and programmable ambient mood lighting. The front seats are spacious and comfortable, and the back seats offer good headroom and legroom. The Equinox also provides a sizable cargo area of up to 39.4 cubic feet. However, this cargo capacity rises to 57 cubic feet when the back row is folded down.

You can use the heated windshield wiper parking feature to prevent ice buildup around the wipers. The interior has similar heated features — namely, a heated steering wheel and heated front and rear outboard seats.

Equinox EV Technology

The technological elements planned for the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox will surely put it ahead of many competing SUVs. An 11-inch touch-screen infotainment system and an 11-inch digital driver information display are included as standard equipment with the 1LT. An incredible 17.7-inch display is accessible with the 2LT trim or higher models.

The MyChevy App allows owners to schedule routes and navigate to recharge locations. All models in the lineup will likely come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with higher-level vehicles also having in-dash navigation and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. Chevy will likely disclose more info as we approach the release.

Equinox EV Safety Features

Families place a high priority on safety, and the Chevrolet Equinox EV meets this need with a comprehensive range of standard features. It’s either confirmed or highly likely that we’ll see standard automatic emergency braking, a following distance indicator, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, lane-keep assist with lane departure warning and IntelliBeam automatic high beams, rear park assist, reverse automatic braking, rear cross-traffic braking, and blind-zone steering assist.

You can also add a head-up display, rear camera mirrors, adaptive cruise control and HD surround vision. Super Cruise is another option — a hands-free driving assistance system compatible with more than 400,000 miles of U.S. and Canadian roadways.
