The Mulehouse

The Mulehouse in downtown Columbia was originally a Baptist church, dating back to 1949. The long-abandoned building caught the eye of radio personality Blair Garner in 2020, who retired from the microphone that year to take on new ventures. Blair and his husband Eric renovated the property during the COVID-19 pandemic, turning it into a live-streaming music venue. The renovated property features a spacious 600-seat main hall that retains the original stained-glass windows. It also has a recording studio, green room, lounge, and offices.

The Mulehouse began hosting its first shows in June 2021 and has since become a staple of the art scene. In its first year, The Mulehouse hosted 51 shows, 17 of which sold out. In 2022, the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development selected The Mulehouse to be a Tennessee Music Pathways venue, giving it even greater renown. This program highlights the importance of music throughout the state.

At The Mulehouse you can enjoy multiple bars, including the full downstairs lounge bar. There’s sure to be something of interest, whatever your musical tastes, as the calendar of events features a broad range of entertainment, including tribute bands, original singer/songwriters, and grooving dance parties.

Common Law Brewing Company Taproom

One of the newest additions to the brewery scene is the Common Law Brewing Company Taproom. The brainchild of former home brewers Brad Eldridge-Smith and Mark Valencia, this destination offers the perfect setting for sampling. While the taproom is one of the best places to discover new favorites, you can also find Common Law brews on tap at restaurants throughout Columbia, Spring Hill, and Franklin.

The menu includes a variety of flavors, such as red ale, golden ale, cream ale, IPAs, sours, and even hard seltzer. While Common Law Brewing’s own beers are the star of the show here, you can also find some guests on tap from companies such as the WanderLinger Brewing Co. in Chattanooga and Diskin Cider in Nashville, Tennessee. If you become a frequent visitor at this new establishment, you can join the membership club for special perks.

Burger Dandy

If you’re craving a hearty taste of something new, check out the newly opened Burger Dandy. Burger Dandy started peddling its mouthwatering food in February 2021 but operated only as a virtual restaurant. This 50’s-inspired diner had its grand opening as a brick-and-mortar destination in January 2022 and has delighted customers ever since.

The signature Just Dandy smash burger features Coca-Cola onions, American cheese, and Burger Dandy’s signature burger sauce. The Big Dandy doubles the love with two smash patties instead of one. You can also order a garden burger or chicken sandwich. The Slaw Dog is another favorite pick featuring the house chili and house slaw on a 1/4-pound all-beef hot dog. If you want to ensure you get your veggies, order the Cobb salad, which is available with grilled or fried chicken. You can round out any meal with crinkle-cut fries, cheese fries, or chili cheese fries.

If you want something sweet, Burger Dandy is happy to oblige with its trio of milkshakes and fried pies. This restaurant distinguishes itself from other fast-food establishments by offering beer and wine as well. Adults can even get their shakes spiked. The Bourbon Chocolate shake features bourbon and Bailey’s Irish cream. You’ll find vanilla bean vodka and Bailey’s Irish cream in the Bailey’s Oreo shake and a hit of vanilla bean vodka and Kahlua in the Birthday Cake shake. This burger joint is sure to serve a meal to remember.
