October 14th, 2021 by

Did you know 2022 marks the seventh year of Chevy’s sixth-generation Camaro? It brings several updates, including a couple new exterior color options. Here’s a rundown of the 2022 Camaro’s specs and features.

Engine and Performance Of The 2022 Camaro

2022 Camaro Overview

For 2022, the Camaro‘s stand-out feature continues to be its impressive engine lineup. Even the base turbocharged 2.0-liter V-4 provides good acceleration with its 275 horsepower. If you’re into taking corners at an even faster pace, you’ll want to choose from this car’s V-6 and V-8 offerings. These include a 3.6-liter V-6 with 335 horsepower, a 6.2-liter V-8 with 455 horsepower, and a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 that cranks out a magnificent 650 horsepower.

The Camaro’s power train is paired with a six-speed manual in the base setup. With the V-6 and V-8 engines, you can opt for an eight-speed or 10-speed automatic transmission. All power train options come with rear-wheel drive. The base Camaro is equipped with 18-inch wheels, but you can have larger ones if you opt for a higher trim.

Appearance and Performance Packages of The 2022 Camaro

The Camaro is equipped with various design and performance upgrades, allowing you to customize a coupe or convertible according to your personal taste. For the 2022 model year, the Design Package 3 adds several styling flourishes to the exterior. These include 20-inch alloy wheels, a black hood stripe, and aerodynamic improvements. Two new exterior colors have also been added: Vivid Orange Metallic and Rapid Blue.

For the high performance trims, there’s also a new Brembo braking system available. It can be had as part of the Heavy Duty Cooling and Braking Package, which includes Brembo front brakes and external engine oil cooler.

If you plan on using your Camaro for track racing, you may want to add the performance data recorder, which is also equipped with an on-board video camera.

Cargo and Seating For The 2022 Camaro

If you choose a Camaro coupe, you’ll have just over 9 cubic feet of cargo capacity at the rear. This drops to 7.3 cubic feet in the convertible.

Seating up front is comfortable for long drives or short, rapid acceleration. You can upgrade to bucket seats if you’d like some additional support. The rear seats are compact and best suited for kids. You’ll find two complete sets of LATCH connectors in the rear row in case you need to install child car seats.

The base trim features cloth upholstery, but you can upgrade to leather for a touch more comfort. A power adjustable driver’s seat comes standard, with a power adjustable passenger’s seat on offer as an optional upgrade.

Infotainment and Technology

The Camaro is equipped with the user-friendly Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system. The standard setup features a 7-inch screen and six-speaker stereo. In terms of connectivity options, Bluetooth, wireless smart phone compatibility, and a wireless hotspot come standard.

A larger 8-inch infotainment center can be had in the higher trims. You can also choose between a seven-speaker or nine-speaker premium stereo. Other optional upgrades include satellite radio and a navigation system.

Proximity keyless entry comes standard for ease of access. Some optional tech upgrades include remote start and an 8-inch gage cluster.

Driver Assistance and Safety Features

To help you stay safe on the road, the Camaro comes standard with a rearview camera and the Teen Driver feature. This allows you to impose limits on how your Camaro is used by a secondary driver. For example, you can create speed limits and volume limits for your sound system.

You can upgrade to forward collision warning, which will alert you if a vehicle or other object is detected up ahead. Blind spot monitoring can help improve your overall awareness on the road.

The Camaro also has optional features designed to make parking safer. Rear parking sensors will help you maneuver your car into a tight spot, while the rear cross traffic alert feature helps you stay safe by alerting you if another motorist is crossing your path while you’re in reverse.

The eight trims on offer for 2022 include 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, LT1, 1SS, 2SS, and ZL1. In addition to selecting a trim, remember you need to choose between coupe and convertible body styles. Not all of the trims listed above are available in both body styles. Convertible models are typically more expensive than coupes.

The 2LT trim adds leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated front seats to the cabin. In the 3LT trim, you gain access to a bunch of tech add-ons, such as the larger infotainment screen and nine-speaker stereo. In addition, there’s a heated steering wheel, wireless charging pad, and memory settings for the driver’s seat.

If you want to benefit from the V-8 engines, you’ll need to go for at least the LT1 trim. Both SS trims also feature this strong powertrain. The 2SS includes the added bonus of customizable interior lighting.

For all high-performance fanatics, the ZL1 trim is the dream choice. Together with the 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine, it features performance suspension, magnetic ride control, a limited slip differential, and red brake calipers. To push the ZL1 just that little bit harder, choose the Extreme Performance package to get some aerodynamic upgrades, wider tires, improved suspension, and a carbon fiber spoiler. The ZL1 is capable of shifting from 0 to 60 mph in an incredible 3.5 seconds!
