A good coffee shop is about more than just giving people the caffeine they want, it’s about atmosphere and community. Columbia, Tennessee, has a great selection of local coffee shops that welcome guests to enjoy well-made coffee and specialty drinks and relax in a cozy atmosphere while they visit with friends, read, or study. Here are five coffee shops worth checking out in the Columbia area.
The Overflowing Cup
Open daily from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m., The Overflowing Cup is a quaint coffee shop on Nashville Highway located inside Calvary Chapel. Guests are welcome to grab a cup of good coffee on the go or hang out for a while. This shop is very involved in the community, supporting recovery centers, hosting open mic nights, and even offering free concerts by local musicians.
Drink menu items include keto coffee, macchiatos, lattes, cold brews, and much more. You can enjoy a traditional preparation or add flavors such as mocha, vanilla, or hazelnut. If you’re not sure what to try, the friendly baristas will be happy to guide you or make you a surprise drink. Start your day right with some carbs and coffee by choosing a treat from The Overflowing Cup’s menu of freshly baked pastries. Try a scone, cinnamon bun, or muffin. Other available items include gluten-free baked goods, cookies, breakfast sandwiches, and soups and sandwiches from Boar’s Head.
Buckhead Coffeehouse
Buckhead Coffeehouse is another warm and welcoming spot to sip on espresso and chill. Enjoy coffee by Summit Coffee Company, which roasts beans out of Old Hickory, Tennessee. Summit trades directly with farmers in Honduras to provide them a fair wage and help support their businesses. Other bean varieties and roasts are available from locations throughout the world.
You’ll find two Buckhead Coffeehouse locations in Columbia, one on Trotwood Avenue and the other on Hampshire Pike. Come by the original Trotwood Avenue location for a cup and a treat any day from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, or from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sundays. The Hampshire Pike location is open from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Fridays. It’s closed on the weekends.
Choose from a list of drinks including drip and pour-over coffee, espresso, lattes, chai tea lattes, fraps, cold brew, and smoothies. Try the açaí, pomegranate, and blueberry smoothie for an immunity boost. If you’re feeling extra hungry in the morning, order a breakfast sandwich with ham, cheese, and egg or the avocado toast. Lunch options include sandwiches, wraps, salads, and soups.
Tennessee Coffee and Smoothie Company
Columbia’s Tennessee Coffee and Smoothie Company offers both a stand location and a dine-in shop. If you’re in a hurry, drive through the stand on Highway 31. If you’ve got time to relax, check out the downtown location on North Main Street across the river from Riverwalk Park. The drive-thru stand is open from 5 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sundays. Head to the downtown location between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday to enjoy free Wi-Fi and comfortable seating.
Cold drink options include coffee coolers, iced coffees or lattes, and smoothies. Try the chocolate peanut butter smoothie for a sweet treat, or keep things healthy with a Very Berry. Pair your drink with a homemade pastry such as a huge blueberry muffin or a piece of pie. Keep an eye out for exciting specials, as the shop regularly creates holiday-inspired drinks like the Harvest Moon Mocha made with chocolate and cinnamon, available in the fall, or the Hand Warmer winter drink made with butter pecan syrup and brown sugar cinnamon.
The Fainting Goat
Located on Main Street in Spring Hill, The Fainting Goat is 11 miles north of Columbia, but it’s worth the short trip. The shop offers a sit-in cafe area and curbside service. Stop by for coffee Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. The curbside service opens at the same time as the cafe each day but closes at 6 p.m.
The Fainting Goat features both traditional and creative coffee drinks. Enjoy a classic Americano or a Kettle Corn latte. Holiday drinks are available throughout the year, so keep an eye out for fun specials like the Love Potion Latte to celebrate Valentine’s Day or the Pumpkin Spice Latte to celebrate fall. Guests can also meet their cravings with fresh-baked muffins, cookies, and churros. Check The Fainting Goat’s calendar for upcoming events, including trivia nights, community celebrations, and more.
Legacy Coffee Company
Also in Spring Hill, but a few minutes closer to Columbia on Nashville Highway, you’ll find Legacy Coffee Company. Legacy roasts its own beans and serves pastries and other goodies from local vendors to support the community. Come in for hot or cold drinks Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Legacy Coffee Company is also a great place to stop for breakfast. You can get hot breakfast sandwiches loaded with eggs, bacon, and cheese, fresh-baked scones, and various kinds of coffee cakes and loaves. Choose from the menu of hot drinks to enjoy something unique, such as the Hot Momma made with white mocha, black mocha, and bourbon caramel. Cold options like the Cubano iced latte made with sweetened condensed milk or any other signature latte over iced are refreshing options on warmer days.
