Chevrolet News 2021
If you thought that electric vehicles were expensive and unaffordable, it’s time to think again. The big news for 2021 is that Chevy is getting into the EV segment in a major way, and it’s winning plaudits. According to US News & World Report’s Most Affordable EV ranking, the Chevrolet Bolt takes the top spot with its impressive driving range and spacious cabin.
What Makes the Chevy Bolt Stand Out as an Electric Vehicle?
One of Chevy Bolt Ev’s most attractive features is its battery range, which is 259 miles. This is longer than many other electric vehicles in the class. On top of that, the Bolt boasts exceptional power and acceleration thanks to its 65-kilowatt lithium-ion battery and electric motor, which combine to put out an impressive 200 horsepower. As a result, the Bolt can shift from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds.
The Bolt also stands out for its spacious cabin in the hatchback class. Behind the second row of seats, you’ll find 16.9 cubic feet of storage space, which can be expanded to 56 cubic feet with the rear row folded down. The two rows of seats offer ample space for adult passengers. Cloth upholstery is standard, but you can upgrade to leather upholstery and heated front seats for additional comfort.
If you’re still not convinced, you don’t need to take our word for it. US News & World Report gave the Bolt its prestigious Best Electric Vehicle award for 2021, meaning it finished ahead of industry heavyweights like Tesla. Awarding the Bolt a rating of 8.1 out of 10 in its review, US News wrote that the Chevy Bolt “distinguishes itself from other models in the hybrid and electric car class with its extensive driving range, peppy acceleration, and playful handling. The Bolt EV also has a spacious cabin and a large cargo hold.”
Is the Chevy Bolt Priced Competitively?
General Motors has made a point of emphasizing that it sees EVs as the wave of the future, not a niche market for those who can afford to pay more. This conviction appears to have flowed into the Bolt, which has an extremely competitive starting price of $36,500.
The Premier trim is a little more expensive with a starting price of $41,700. You may decide that it’s worth paying the extra cash since the Premier trim is equipped with standard DC charging. DC charging allows you to recharge your Bolt’s battery at a much faster pace. For example, with a standard 240-volt charging unit, it can take about 10 hours to fully charge the Bolt’s battery. By contrast, DC charging can recharge the battery in between two to three hours.
What’s the Latest About the Bolt EUV?
Chevy is planning yet another EV for the 2022 season: the Bolt EUV (electric utility vehicle). Modeled on the highly praised Bolt, this new addition to the Chevrolet lineup aims to combine the brand’s expertise in designing SUVs with its recent success in the EV market. The Bolt EUV is expected to have a starting retail price of $33,000. Its estimated driving range on a full charge is 247 miles, and it can move from 0 to 60 mph in only 7 seconds. It will be fitted with the same power train as its hatchback cousin.
A further piece of great news is that the Bolt EUV will have a faster 240-volt charging capability. Whereas the 2021 Bolt can add about 25 miles to its battery’s range for every hour of charge on a 240-volt outlet, the 2022 Bolt EUV will achieve 37 miles of range. This means you’ll be able to fully charge your battery in under 8 hours.
Another exciting development is the Bolt EUV’s Super Cruise driving capability. This new technology allows your electronic vehicle to automatically control your speed, braking, and steering on highways. This semi-autonomous driving mode isn’t yet available with the Bolt hatchback.
In terms of styling, the Bolt EUV has a slightly more rugged appearance than the hatchback. The Bolt EUV has significantly more legroom in the rear seats than the Bolt hatchback, making it the ideal choice if you regularly ride with adults in the back. Legroom in the EUV rises to over 39 inches.
What About the Chevy Bolt Hatchback’s Redesign?
Yet another exciting thing for fans of Chevy EVs to look forward to in the summer of 2021 is the redesign of the Bolt hatchback for the 2022 season. While we’ll have to wait until the official release to learn exactly how it looks, we already have some ideas about what’s going to change. Speculation ahead of the Bolt’s redesign suggests that its starting retail price could drop below $32,000, providing yet another argument for buyers to go electric. Projections suggest that the starting price will be a whopping $5,500 lower than the 2021 Bolt.
In addition to a new price tag, the redesigned Bolt will be appearing in showrooms soon with a revamped exterior design and cabin styling. In the front, the driver and passenger’s seats have been remodeled for additional comfort. At the rear, you’ll still benefit from around 17 cubic feet of cargo storage. Chevrolet plans on including a lot more soft-touch materials in the cabin and several stylish touches, like a flat-bottomed steering wheel and push-button shifter.
One thing that won’t be changing with the redesigned Bolt is the power train. The highly praised 65-kilowatt battery pack and electric motor combination that puts out 200 horsepower will be back again for 2022.
