2022 Chevrolet Equinox

September 9th, 2021 by

Thanks to its spacious cabin, eye-catching design, and user-friendly infotainment options, the Chevy Equinox is one of the most popular SUVs on the market. Chevy is hoping to continue its success with a few styling upgrades for 2022. Here’s an overview of how the 2022 Equinox is shaping up.

Engine and Performance on The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox2022 Chevrolet Equinox

The Equinox will continue to feature its familiar turbocharged 1.5-liter V-4 engine for 2022. It’s capable of churning out 170 horsepower and can be paired with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The power train includes a six-speed automatic transmission.

The turbocharged V-4 is suitable for day-to-day driving. It also has impressive fuel efficiency. According to the EPA, the 2022 Equinox manages 26 mpg on city roads and 31 mpg on the highway. Those figures drop slightly by 1 mpg if you opt for all-wheel drive.

Exterior Styling

The Equinox is getting some styling upgrades for 2022, especially to its front end. The headlights get a more prominent position, while a new twist is added to the grill design. The front and rear bumpers also enjoy an upgrade.

Chevy has added the all-new RS trim to the lineup, which highlights dark and sporty exterior features. These include dark-painted wheels and black trim.

The 2022 Equinox is available in a wide range of exterior colors, including white, black, metallic blue, cherry red, silver, and gray metallic.

Infotainment and Interior of The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox

Chevy’s easy-to-use Infotainment 3 system comes with a 7-inch screen as standard in the 2022 Equinox. It features standard smartphone compatibility, four USB ports, BlueTooth connectivity, and a wireless hotspot. You can listen to your favorite music or radio show through the standard six-speaker stereo or upgrade to a seven-speaker premium system for a higher quality experience. Other optional upgrades include a larger infotainment screen and a navigation system.

The 2022 Equinox retains its roomy cabin that has helped make this vehicle so popular. Despite being in the compact SUV class, both rows of seats in this five-seat crossover provide plenty of headroom and legroom for tall adult passengers. There’s also equipment for installing child car seating on the two outermost seats in the rear row. Cloth upholstery comes standard, but you can upgrade to leather if you’d like a touch more luxury.

When it comes to cargo capacity, there are about 30 cubic feet available at the rear with the second row upright. If you need to transport larger items, you can fold down the rear row of seats to access close to 64 cubic feet of storage space.

If you’re planning on hauling a heavier load, the Equinox is a workhorse. When properly equipped, this compact SUV can tow up to 3,500 pounds. That’s more than enough to pull a small boat or mid-sized camper.

Trims and Pricing Of The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox

In addition to the four trims carried over from the 2021 Equinox, the 2022 adds a fifth, the RS trim. The starting price for the base L trim is expected to be around $25,800.

The L trim features proximity keyless entry and voice recognition. The cabin boasts cloth upholstery with four-way manually adjustable front seats.

The LS trim includes some optional upgrades, like a chrome appearance package and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. You can also add a rear-seat infotainment system, which can help keep the kids entertained on a long drive.

The third trim option is the LT. It’s equipped with a color information driver display and satellite radio. You can also opt to add heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel for additional comfort. On the entertainment side, you can get a larger screen, a navigation system, and wireless device charging.

The all-new RS trim includes some unique interior features on top of our already described exterior styling. This includes black upholstery with red stitching.

In the range-topping Premier trim, you get leather upholstery, LED headlights, and driver memory settings. You can add ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a surround-view parking camera.

Safety Features of the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox

Whichever trim you choose from Chevy’s 2022 Equinox lineup, you can be sure that you’ll get a great range of driver safety features. Even in the base setup, the Equinox has forward collision warning and pedestrian detection, two features that can detect people or obstacles up ahead and alert you to slow down. Automatic emergency braking is also standard. This feature can make all the difference if you need to bring your Chevy to an abrupt halt.

The 2022 Equinox has several family-friendly safety features too. The first worth noting is Teen Driver mode. This allows you to impose certain limits on how a secondary driver uses your Equinox. For example, if your son or daughter is just learning to drive, you can impose speed limits on your Chevy or volume limits on the sound system, so you have control over how your vehicle is used. The second feature aimed at families is the rear-seat reminder. This is an alert that reminds you to check the rear of your Equinox before getting out, so you don’t inadvertently leave children or pets in the back.

Other optional safety features include rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors, which can make life a lot easier when you’re maneuvering into a tight parking spot.
