Take, for example, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and the 2022 Chevy Tahoe.
If either of these models has caught your eye but you’re not sure which one to purchase, let’s take a closer look at the two to establish the changes that the vehicle has undergone from one year to the next.
2021 Chevy Tahoe vs. 2022 Chevy Tahoe: At a Glance
The 2021 Chevy Tahoe ushered in an impressive new model that sought to incorporate modern technology and improve upon previous Chevy Tahoe offerings. What drivers will notice, however, is that the massive jump to the 2021 Chevy Tahoe doesn’t apply to the new 2022 model. Rather, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe makes some minor changes that perfect what the 2021 Chevy Tahoe got right. In this guide, we’re going to be taking a closer look at these changes and what they mean for your experience across these two models.
Both the 2021 and the 2022 models offer the same trims. These include the LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country models. Each trim offers something different for drivers, with the Z71 offering excellent off-road capabilities and the High Country model being a more premium take on the Chevy Tahoe, for example.
The main difference between the trims lies mostly in the engine capabilities but also in some of the new technology that has been installed in each vehicle option. The RST, Z71, and Premier now all offer the 6.2-liter V-8 engine with 420 horsepower. Regarding all available models, you will find that the new 2022 Chevy Tahoe offers three engine options: the 355-horsepower V-8, the 420-horsepower V-8, and a diesel six-cylinder engine. This has also allowed for a minor increase in combined mpg, with the 2021 Chevy Tahoe boasting 17 combined mpg and the 2022 Chevy Tahoe boasting 18 combined mpg.
You’ll also notice some minor differences between the trims, like the new electronic limited-slip differential in the Z71, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster in every model except for the basic LS model, and updated infotainment systems and new driver-assist technology to make driving the 2022 Chevy Tahoe safer than it was with its predecessor.
It’s important to note that the 2021 Chevy Tahoe is still an excellent model and offers plenty of value across trims. However, if you’re a fan of updates that your favorite brand pursues with each new model, you may get more from the 2022 Chevy Tahoe.
Comparing Size and Comfort
Between the 2021 Chevy Tahoe and the 2022 Chevy Tahoe, the 2022 model has made some vast improvements in regard to the spaciousness and comfort of the interior. While the 2021 Chevy Tahoe sought to expand the interior to give drivers more space, some of the added seating felt constricting and cramped rather than open. The 2022 model amends these issues by adding seating in the second row that’s capable of moving backward and forward, as well as 10 extra inches of space between the second and third rows, which can double as space when the seats are laid down.
Put simply, if you’re looking for a car that offers plenty of space for your family or travel without making you feel like you and your passengers are packed too tightly together, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe is likely to be the best model for your needs.
Comparing Safety Features and Technology
As we stated in the trim overview, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe has made many improvements to the infotainment features in order to give drivers better control over their navigation and entertainment experience. The new 2022 models, especially the LT, are now equipped with Google tech, such as its voice assistant, maps, and app store for greater convenience. iPhone users are also catered to with Apple CarPlay.
The new models are now equipped with a 10.2-inch touch screen, a convenient Wi-Fi hot spot for devices not connected to data, plenty of charging ports for long journeys, and an impressive Bose audio system with two 12.6-inch displays outfitted to the back of the front seats to keep guests and little ones entertained during a drive.
Speaking to the safety features of the new 2022 Chevy Tahoe, this vehicle offers forward-collision warnings paired with an automated emergency braking system, lane-departure warning and a lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring along with rear cross-traffic alerts, 13 different camera views, and a buckle to drive feature. Put simply, the new 2022 Chevy Tahoe is packed with all of the features you need to stay safe and entertained when you’re on the road.
If you have reviewed the 2021 Chevy Tahoe and you found that there were a few features not included that you would find useful, a 2022 model may be a better fit.
The colors for the 2021 Chevy Tahoe and the 2022 Chevy Tahoe are quite similar, providing you with a variety of metallic options that are stunning on this model. The major difference lies in the blues and the reds. The 2021 Chevy Tahoe offered unique colors like Pewter Metallic, which varied greatly from the Dark Blue Moon Metallic that you can find in both models. Meanwhile, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe offers new options like Dark Ash Metallic and Caffeine Metallic.
If you prefer calmer blue hues or lighter hues, go with the 2021 Chevy Tahoe. If you prefer reddish hues and darker hues, try out the 2022 Chevy Tahoe.
